- WRIMOS UNITE - Published authors who have participated in NaNoWriMo

September 10, 2015

This is the third post in the WRIMOS UNITE series and today, I want to talk about authors who have published their Nano story.

Some people are anti-NaNoWriMo. They think it's not worth anything, that all you get is a shitty first draft and a lot of stress. Well, I have three things to tell those people:

1 - First draft are ALWAYS messy. So, rushed or not, it's a start and a hell of a lot better than no draft at all.

2 - Yeah, it does cause stress. But that's kind of the point, to work with a deadline to motivate yourself to WRITE, WRITE, WRITE! NaNoWriMo is intended to be a fun adventure! If you start and realize it's too much for you, then do Camp Nano instead! It's the same concept as NaNoWriMo, the only difference being that you can set your own word count goal.

3 - Clearly, NaNoWriMo helped some people because they went off to become best-selling authors! (in your face!)
Want proofs? Here it is!

The first draft of all of the following book have been written during NaNoWriMo:

Cinder - by Merissa Meyer

Fangirl - by Rainbow Rowell

The night we said yes - by Lauren Gibaldi

Side effects may vary - by Julie Murphy

Anna and the French kiss - by Stephanie Perkins

Water for elephant - by Sara Gruen

Here are six of the 200+ Nano stories that have been published up to this day. TWO HUNDRED! It's crazy! And I'm not even talking about the self published one; add those and you have an even greater number of published stories! Don't believe me? Check out the NaNoWriMo website.

The point of this post was to show you guys that NaNoWriMo CAN really help you. Some of your favorite authors started out as Wrimos, just like you; and you could end up being a great author, just like them.

Take care guys!
