When I First Saw You #31

December 10, 2016
When I First Saw You, WIFSY for short, is an original monthly feature here on Sailing Through Books that consists of writing a made-up synopsis for a book based on its cover and title only. Essentially judging a book by its cover, yes.

Well hello there!
It's been so long since the last time we spoke! I love what you did with your hair! And is that a new shirt? Lovely!

My apologies for the lateness of this WIFSY post (again), but I'm here now so let's not waste any more time and jump right into it!
The choices this month were all really interesting and I had a hard time picking one, but I finally decided to go with Beautiful Broken Girls.

Title: Beautiful Broken Girls
Author: Kim Savage
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)
Release date: February 21st 2017

My made-up synopsis

Ever since her best friend found herself a boyfriend, Laura had felt left out. Until she started seeing Her.

Spending time with Her and talking to Her was nice, but Laura knew there was something wrong with herself when she realized she was the only one seeing Her.

It eased her loneliness and it wasn't harming anyone so... Laura decided not to say anything. The problem was, She was becoming more and more persistent, trying to convince Laura that her best friend wasn't good enough for her anymore, that she should get rid of her. Permanently.

With a heart broken by her best friend and a voice inside her broken mind, it was becoming hard for Laura to keep it all together...

The real deal

Mira and Francesca Cillo—beautiful, overprotected, odd—seemed untouchable. But Ben touched seven parts of Mira: her palm, hair, chest, cheek, lips, throat, and heart.
After the sisters drown themselves in the quarry lake, a post-mortem letter from Mira sends Ben on a quest to find notes in the seven places where they touched.
Note by note, Ben discovers the mystical secret at the heart of Mira and Francesca's world, and that some things are better left untouched.

Verdict

My synopsis kinda sucks. It's not the worst, but I've written better. Plus, I cheated a little because it's inspired by a short story I wrote for school two years ago.
The real one though. I have to take a moment to digest what I just read!
I'm getting some Virgin Suicide vibes, mixed with a little Thirteen Reasons Why and I'm liking it. I'm liking it a lot!
